Project description at foot of page

Having always been interested in activism and having taken part in many protests myself I started this project to document the sheer variety of protests and activists I have encountered over the years and will encounter in the future.

Having previously stuck to the bigger issues that I was interested in myself (anti-war, environment, poverty etc) I am endeavouring to attend as many different protests as I can from now on and to document activism from across the political and social spectrum. This project isn't about the views expressed in the images themselves. It's about the very act of protest itself, the huge variety of issues and the huge variety of protesters who are now facing tougher restrictions in the UK as time goes on.

Moving forward I'm going to keep attending events when I can and try to ensure that they are across the political spectrum.  As well as the bigger nationwide or global issues I'm also interested in smaller local issues (for example a small group of parents protesting the closure of their local library.  Stuff like that. UK events). If you know of anything get in touch via the contact page and let me know.  Cheers. James (Edinburgh July 2026)

ps Don't get in touch to tell me you don't like a particular photo or particular view expressed in a photo.  As stated earlier it's not about the views expressed it's about the act of protest while we are still allowed to do it in the UK and to be fair and balanced I feel I have to include opinions from across the political spectrum.  Ideally I hope to be able to include differing views on each particular issue but I'm not there yet. If you don't like that then this project is not for you so go look at another website.
